Mid-American Glazing is proud to highlight our contributions to the Marion Fire Station No.1, a project that sets a national benchmark for supporting firefighter wellness through biophilic design. Our work included installing full-height glass in the apparatus bay and living spaces, as well as glass railings and etched glass with natural patterns, enhancing the visual and non-visual connection with nature. These elements not only strengthen the building’s civic presence but also play a crucial role in reducing PTSD among firefighters by integrating natural light, views, and biophilic patterns into their living and working environment.
This 21,214-square-foot, two-level fire station embodies a commitment to the physical and mental health of firefighters, featuring biophilic principles like thermal comfort through geothermal systems, dynamic and diffuse light, and a strong connection with natural systems. By providing operable windows, access to exterior decks, and materials that reflect nature’s complexity and order, we’ve helped create a space that promotes stress reduction, enhances cognitive function, and supports the well-being of those who serve the community. The Marion Fire Station No.1 stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design in fostering a healthier, more connected workplace.
